The sound of the drum creates a resonance and vibration that is felt deep in to our core. It awakens the inner wisdom and innate knowing that we all have. The beat of a drum during Shamanic Journeying opens space for us to experience wisdom from other realms and allies who can guide us in our life here on Earth. The connection to our Ancestors and Guides becomes a clearer channel with the support of the drum allowing our minds to shift so we may have these wonderful interactions. Each drum circle is created to be a sacred space for the intentions being set and the people who are present. Who knew on this particular day that our equine companions at the farm would create a shift that none of us expected!
We settled in to the energy of the land and I began to drum and guide an invocation and opening meditation. The magical rhythm caught the attention of one of the horses and he came ambling over to investigate us. Willie is a brown and white paint horse with blue eyes. He is usually very shy and aloof around strangers which made this interaction very inspiring. He came and joined our circle, standing for a moment to connect to the vibration of the drum. As we witnessed this surprising interaction we noticed that his energy, personality and aura were shifting and he was exhibiting the confidence, wisdom and knowledge of a Native American pony. The drum was supporting his innate connection to those times and as he continued to stay with us, he also continued to relish the vibration of the drum.
Then to our surprise, one at a time, each of the horses came over to our circle to interact. They were inquisitive and were definitely providing a different perspective to our intentions. We sat in awe of these great creatures as they gently joined us and received what they needed from the drum, and just as gently, walked away to continue grazing. Each interaction was unique and we all felt the energy they were bringing to our Circle!
Each week, as we gather, Willie is the first of the herd to join us for the opening Drumming and we witness his whole body and energy shift as he connects to those Ancient Times. These horses now join every drum circle and each horse brings their own innate wisdom to the group. In your own time of quiet, stillness and connection to Nature, allow your breath and open heart to feel the unconditional love and guidance from all the wonders of Nature, Wildlife and our own animal companions.
